Elevate your basics

You can't get more basic than a pair of sweatpants. Sometimes you just don't feel like leaving the comfort of your basics.  But your outfit doesn't have to BE basic. I think when it comes to sustainability and having a wardrobe that serves you.  You need pieces that can do double duty. So I'm here to share ways you can elevate those basic pieces in your wardrobe. I  think these tips can work for any basic items you have in your wardrobe, even a pair of sweatpants.

First add interest: it's all about the juxtaposition. When it comes to elevating your basic pieces, switch it up. Take your basic piece, and add more  dressed up elements like a button up or silk blouse.

You can also add  interest with pattern  and print. For example I picked a long sleeve top  with an all over graphic floral print. The print  has a white background that ties back into the pants. Don’t forget the small details, simple things like rolling up your sleeves , half tucking your shirt and cuffing the hem of your pants. All these little tweaks  can help you look more styled.

Add layers: Think about how you can add layers like a denim jacket, cardigan , vest or even a blazer.

Next add in some texture: A textured knit , like a ribbed knit or waffle knit. You can even add in some shine and texture with a sequined element. There are also textures like velvet , velour and leather.

Accessorize: accessories may be small but can make a big impact when it comes to elevating a look. So layer it on and go big. Statement pieces will instantly spice up any boring or basic outfit. Think about fun statement or bold earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings. You can pick one statement   piece  and let it pop or take a maximal-list   approach and pile it one.

Think about your  look head to toe and  top it off with a hat. A  fedora, wide brim hat , beret or newsboy cap even a  baseball cap the options are endless. And  good footwork is the cherry on top. Swap out your casual sneakers for a more elegant flat or mule. Amp it up with a heeled bootie or colorful statement shoe. And if sneakers truly are you ride or die think about adding some edge with a platform or chunky sneaker. You can even spice up your sneakers by choosing   one with unique details or colorway.

So whether you're running errands or meeting up for a quick lunch date do it in style by elevating your basics.
